International Transfer Chances

I'm from Brazil and I'm applying to Trinity as a transfer student. Do you guys think I stand any chances?

High School GPA:3.7
College GPA: 3.6
Major:Political Science
extra-curriculars: learning three languages on my own (German, Spanish and Italian)
Voluntary English Tutor
Research on "Politics and Human Rights''
ACT: 27
TOEFL ibt: 106 ( the perfect score is 120, and Trinity requires a minimum score of 100, and their average score is 105)
Excellent recommendations
I've checked the website and Brazil is not on the "Countries Represented list". Do you think it would boost my chances if there isn't any Brazilian student at Trinity?

My EFC is near O (I need a lot of financial aid, that's why I'm worried I won't be admitted!)

anyone ???

You should be an easy admission

OMG!!! really? I don’t want to bring my hopes up because of my EFC, but I hope you’re right. Thanks!

I forgot to mention that my college is in Brazil and I’ve heard that most of the accepted international transfer students come from other US institutions. I’m also a non-traditional student (I’m 22 years old). Do you think it would put me at a disadvantage? Would I still be an easy admission? Thank you!

I also forgot to mention (yeah, my memory sucks. haha) that we don’t calculate GPA here in Brazil, but I tried to estimate one. My current college GPA (according to an internet conversion) is 3.40 and not 3.60.

I don’t know if it helps, but the score range here in Brazil is 0 - 10. So 10 is the perfect score, and my current college average score is 8,70.

I have just been selected for a US embassy program on US History and Government for Brazilian student leaders at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville. It’ll take place between january and february. (Does this count as an award, for it was a national competition or as an extra curricular only?)

So, considering all this (especially my EFC of 0) could you guys tell me whether my chances are really that good as mark2457 said? Thanks! :)

anyone? Are my chances really good? I’m kinda’ confident, but my huge financial need worries me!!

I’m also applying to Union College, but neither Union nor Trinity requires a supplement to the common app. Therefore, I can’t be specific on my common app transfer essay, which will be the same for both colleges. Do you think I also have a chance at Union, or should apply to Trinity only, and write a more specific essay? Thank you!

mark2457: Actually I turned out to be an easy rejection! :(

^ Don’t let that disappoint you. I remember when I applied to Trinity two years ago, they sent me a rejection as well. I got accepted and waitlisted at schools “ranked” much higher than Trinity. Nevertheless, they sent me an additional letter saying that this decision was made based purely on my financial need and that if my financial status changes the following year, I should contact the school (a little too obnoxious?)

That said, I know a bunch of people from Trinity and they are absolutely wonderful! It’s a great school but it just didn’t want international kids asking for money. Hope you’ve gotten admitted somewhere else or even if you’re still at your Brazilian college, I hope you’re kicking arse! :)
