international transfer

hi all.... i'm currently a freshman in a New Zealand university and i'm looking into transferring... I applied last year...was w/listed at 4 but ultimately rejected. I applied mostly to Ivies and the top LACs, and asked for near full aid. I understand that transfer admission can be more competitive than first year admission...especially when it comes to international finaid, but i'm really determined to go to the US...hope someone could give me advice and suggestions on which colleges to look into.....thanks.....

If you are looking for finaid with a transfer, your chances get slimmer as some schools that offer minor aid to intel's do not offer it to intel transfers. I would suggest the big ivies again as well as Grinnell. If you look around at some of the threads here that talk about schools that offer lots of aid to freshman intl. than I would look at their website and see if that extends to transfers as well....

Yeah frenchvanilla, same situation, i also did same thing n i'm here in Ghana. Also looking for school. Was admitted to Cornell with nothing but i'll need much aid too.

Does anyone know about these schools? I try to pick some to add to my list-the schools that have big financial aid package for international transfer students!!! Please help me !!!
1. Hamilton
2. Macalester
3. Grinnell
4. Colgate
5. Oberlin
6. Bowdoin
7. Vassar

what are your stats? i know many schools on your list do give generously but only to those who have stats to match.

I like to echo collegeprep11. IMO, an international student in serious need of financial aid should not wishfully apply to Ivies or alike unless they have the stat to be competitive.

IMO, a better strategy is to apply to matching schools that offer intended field of study and a generous financial aid policy. If one is willing to trade the brand/prestige factor, he/she stands a better chance of being rewarding some serious bucks.

My college's GPA: 3.85 - Honors Program
Dean's list
High School's GPA: 4.333
Good community services and extracurricular activities.
I have very 3 good recommendation letters from my professors, 2 of them are Deans.
Good essay
SAT retaken (hope to boost it up to over 2200)

Please give me some advices on those schools

Out of the schools you posted above, only Grinnell offers aid to intl. transfers and if the others do it is severely severely limited.

How about Colgate? Do you know?

hm....colgate does too but you have to compete with me :) ...At Grinnell too. Hope we get through

Lawrence University

To intl_transfer: :) hope we get through. Great joy to hear that I have you as my company. Btw, thanks for sharing. Message me when you get the results. I intend to apply Cornell, but it is stingy. They probably will not give me enough aid.
The game gets tougher, guys!!! :)

denison university in ohio

Private schools aside...Does anyone know any schools that give merit aid (eg. tuition fee waiver..out of state fee waiver) to international transfer based on academic merit?

Go for honors colleges in public universities...they may have limited full tuition or similar kind of merit scholarships...where you want to go to school, I mean which place? A lot of public schools provide out of state waiver based on merit..

What are honours colleges? Sorry i have little knowledge about public schools. Would you ming helping me by naming and recommending some schools? I would be happy to go to any decent to good school in the US....I made the mistake of aiming at only the best (Ivy, Williams....etc...) when i applied for freshmen. And the schools that provide out of state waiver, do they provide it for international transfers as well?

Ball State has upto full tuition scholarship...i don't know how much u need but denision, bard colleges do provide partial fundings...honors colleges are special branches of large schools esp public...they may have additional funding to international students...check the honors college whichever public university you choose...you can search over the internet
