I am a student from the US and I’m currently in the process of applying to the U of T Faculty of Arts and Sciences as an International Relations major. I’ve seen in different websites different prices for the tuition at Toronto. One site listed $18,000, another listed up to $40,000, and on the Toronto website itself it said including residence and other fees, it would be $70,000 Canadian dollars. Can anybody clear the air for me? Financial aid and pricing is a big deal for me. Thanks.
The preliminary schedule of fees for students starting in 2017 is found here - http://www.provost.utoronto.ca/link/students/fees17/intl_as.htm
Tuition will be $45690 CAD. Room and board depends on the residence chosen, but will be approximately $14000-15000. This does not include any personal expenses such as airfare or spending money.
In Canada, need based financial aid is mainly run through a student’s home provincial government. If you’re not Canadian, you won’t be getting any of that. University merit based aid and need based aid is rare.
International fees at the U of T have ridiculously risen in the last few years. It will price itself out of the market. The steep tuition is not merited. It continues to rise.
At a price of tuition +room and board of about $45K USD compared to similar US schools with rates of $56K (U Michigan) to $61K (UCLA), U of T has a very long way to go before they price themselves out of the international market.
