Hi there,

I just got my AS results this week and I've decided that I'm definitely going for US universities - the top ones, like Ivy League or public Ivies.

I'm well aware that there are some Ivy unis that are need-blind and full-need in terms of finance, but I was wondering if there was a good book or website for international students to go to, to find private scholarships because the need-blind ones are extremely competitive and I doubt I'd get in. Without a scholarship, even if I got into a great US uni, I wouldn't be able to go so I really need the financial aid.

I've looked at these books online but have no idea if they are relevant to international applicants:

Scholarship Handbook 2014: All-New 17th Edition (College Board Scholarship Handbook)

The Ultimate Scholarship Book 2014: Billions of Dollars in Scholarships, Grants and Prizes

Kaplan Scholarships 2014

I don't want to buy it if it doesn't apply to me, so as well as referencing some good websites, would anyone with these books be able to tell me if they're relevant to international applicants?

Thanks!

Vanessa

You have two options - apply to schools where you will qualify for full-ride merit scholarships (some public schools make these available to international students - see the thread on “automatic scholarship” schools at the top of the FA forum), or get into one of the small handful of schools that meet full need and are need-blind for intl’s.

Even if you were able to win a 3rd party scholarship, there are almost NONE that will cover you for more than your freshman year. Don’t waste you money on books - they won’t help.

If you need more advice, head over to the international students forum.

Hey! I’m in the same situation currently, can I suggest that you download the ‘sat down’ app if you have an ipad to get a rough estimate of what SAT scores you can achieve.

Regarding financial aid this website is literally a life saver for me. [Schools Awarding International Financial Aid](Schools Awarding International Financial Aid)

It tells you the colleges and uni’s that ward financial aid to international students based on financial aid. There is more than you would expect!

Best of luck!!

Thanks dodgersmom and Eskimo04 for the comment I was already aware that a private scholarship wasn’t going to be able to tide me over but I figured it was worth a shot seeing if anyone knew of any! I know there are some really whacky scholarships out there that have strange requirements so I was just hoping that I might get lucky and someone would tell me of one here.

I’ve never heard of the SAT Down app so I might try that! I have got a 30 in the ACT but I’m planning on resitting for a higher score in September.
