Hi everyone,

I'm a student from the UK and I know that in America, the system works differently where students in honours and AP classes usually show more academic potential then students who just take regular classes.

I currently take 5 AS levels in Physics, Maths, Further Maths, English and History and was wondering if there were any extra classes online or 'extra credit' style work that I could do (preferably by October/November since that's when Early Action deadlines are) in the UK to show greater academic potential, like students in honours and AP classes do in America.

Thanks!

AS + A2 levels are widely considered equal (if not better than) AP classes.
To show greater academic potential you could have 4 A2s instead of 3 and of course have predicated grades in A*-B range.

Thank you for that advice! Another question I want to ask is what kind of grades do A Level students need for top US colleges? I’ve just taken my AS exams and I have no idea if I’ve done well!
I’ve read up online that Ivy Leagues/top state schools in America place ACT/SATs over exam results (quite a few people were very forward about that!), but to what extent? I mean, could I get into an Ivy League/Stanford etc. with an AABBB at AS level if I get predicted highly for A2 and have brilliant ACT/SATs? I really don’t know what the benchmark is for A Levels and I don’t want to spend a lot of money applying if there’s no hope!

Then get in touch with the counselors at the advising center in London. Even if you can’t visit in person, they should be able to give you some help by phone or email. They are the experts on this topic, and can tell you where students with A level results like yours have been admitted in recent years.
