International Village

there are some here: [International Village/ Parcel 18 | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)

There is another link I posted in another thread, but I can’t find. You can search for it.

blinkangel… wow those speeds are crazy fast! Could you please run the test again (twice, actually, since sometimes you dont get the best speed the first time), with the ethernet cable?

thanks!

Anyone know about my question earlier about the TV’s? It says on NU’s site that they offer cable in all the dorms, but does anyone know if any of those channels are high-definition?

I don’t think they’re high definition, and at least when I was on campus, you couldn’t hook up anything like Tivo or DVR.

Internet in dorms is usually pretty good, I always got good torrent upload speed… :D

Here are the speeds with ethernet!

Download: 55.58 Mb/s
Upload: 4.88 Mb/s
Ping: 21 ms

Second time around…

Download: 90.09 Mb/s
Upload: 4.15 Mb/s
Ping: 20 ms

Why are the upload times so much slower now??! I don’t understand any of this! haha I have iTunes running-- does that affect this? Sorry if I’m screwing this up!

And about HD, there is a range of about 13 channels on the Channel Line Up that says “Reserved Programming (HD)”

Those internet speeds are strange… the download shot up, but the upload is really slow now! Maybe someone in the building was using bittorrent at the time or something

but…

"Internet in dorms is usually pretty good, I always got good torrent upload speed… "

Sweet! That’s exactly why I wanted to know :P

Strange semi-contradictory answers regarding the HD channels. I guess I’ll just try it out for myself… unless someone here actually has an HDTV hooked up now (getting HD channels)

I was wondering if there are any freshman LLCs in IV other than Honors? Also, is it possible to live in LV if i was not accepted to the Honors program?

^International and Creative Expressions. Computer Science, too-- not sure if that’s freshmen though.

We attended the Honors session of an Accepted Students Day yesterday, and they stated that for next year’s Freshman class, the International Dorm will be split into 4 LLC’s. You can select your preference on the Honors Housing form (I think you indicate your first and second choice). They are somewhat based on majors, but not specifically. One is science related, and another was geared towards business…can’t remember the other two. You do not have to choose the LLC based upon your major, it’s up to you to choose which LLC shares your interests.

And, yes, you do have to be accepted in Honors to live in this dorm.

@Riley13: is that new as of next year (having to be honors to live in IV)? Because there are plenty of non-honors freshman living here in the International (not just international students, but also U.S. students who requested it) and Creative Expressions LLCs.

We were wondering about that also, and someone asked the question at our Honors Session. The answer was that it will only be for Honors Students. Although that doesn’t seem to be possible since the building houses many more than the number of Honors students…maybe she misinterpreted the question. The other thing she did say, which was also news, is that you must stay in IV if you are Honors. Based on things I’ve read here, I didn’t think that was the case last year.

My residence hall tour guide said that a lot of freshman are housed here, not just honors. But i kept hearing different stories. so idk

I really don’t see them changing the guidelines from this year.

IV is way too big to only house honors students. There are already a great number of singles on the honors floors of IV since they didn’t fill all the rooms.

And I don’t think they can force you into the Honors LLC. That’d be ridiculous. However, I do believe you will be guaranteed honors housing as a freshman (my friend who got in off the waitlist and didn’t realize she was accepted into honors didn’t request honors housing until orientation and June and still got it).

We are coming from out of the country over our spring break in april so my son can visit . He has been accepted to honors college EA. He wanted to do an overnight visit in IV but they don"t seem to have those. Best suggestions for places for him to go and ways to see IV to see what its really like to live there and what Northeastern and Honors will be like?

If you are talking about the Welcome day for admitted students, they have dorm visits after the morning presentation. For our trip in Feb. they showed us 3 different types of dorms, one of them was IV, so just look at the schedule for that day.

I was curious about the Honors housing for next year, and emailed the Admissions office. They stated that if a student accepts the Honors invitation, the only housing offered is in International Village. You can select a preference for an LLC within Honors, but the dorm will be mandatory.

The only thing I can think of is that because Honors students have to move in a week early, it’s easier to have them all be in the same building rather than open all the buildings early to accommodate the Honors students living in non-Honors housing… but I think that’s new.

If it helps any, IV is not just for Honors students- it’s also for Upperclassmen- and the Computer Science LLC in there is for upperclass CS students, not freshman. I heard on the CS dorm that freshman Computer Science students loved their LLC so much they requested an LLC for upperclassmen, and that version was placed in the CS building for awhile. Guess they are moving to IV.

The freshman LLC for CompSci is still in it’s usual place. Forget exactly which dorm, though.

So even if you don’t end up in Honors, you still might end up living as an upperclassmen if you draw it in the housing lottery.

Personally, I’ll be going to the Computer Science LLC, even if it is in the freshmen dorms. I want to get good grades in my major, and that’s the best route to achieving it.

Can someone who’s currently living in a freshman IV double please post a few pictures of the inside of your dorm room? I just want to see how big they are, what the layout is, and the bathroom as well

thanks!

Pretty sure freshmen in IV have all moved out for the summer. I think the upperclassmen buildings are still open (not sure), but I had two freshmen from IV move into my suite which implies they were kicked out of their building.

I just learned that I will live in IV - East Tower since September. Could anyone tell if there’s any significant difference between all three towers? Also, in which tower is a gym?
