Hey.. I was wondering is it true that international students are considered in the same regard i.e. have the same chances of getting into Yale as a student who is a citizen or permanent resident of U.S.A. Is there a quota of some sort for international students that caps the admit rate or does Yale select students purely on merit and disregards things like citizenship status etc. ?

Also, does anyone know approximately when Admission Officers read and view applications and when they make their decisions ? Will it make a difference in my application or will my application at least be reviewed if I tell Yale Undergrad Office now (March 2 actually) that I became a permanent resident of the U.S. ( I became a resident a while ago but due to circumstances I was not able to send in my update information. Now I am angry at myself that I have failed to do this and am afraid that it would have made a difference in my application in terms of admission.) Thanks

There appears to be an unofficial quota of accepted international apps. Therefore all int'l students are competing against others in the same pool. Dependent on the number, the odds can be even more steep than the general applicant pool. International vs. US status is considered in that light.

I think it would be VERY VERY important for you to tell them your new status. I think it could vastly improve your situation. Do it MONDAY!!!!!

Good luck to you.

some people told me that it has no difference between international and US citizens but my interviewer (both from ivy) told me that even though there is no specific number for international student, they usually only accept 1-3 students from my country (indonesia).it actually depends on your country too.

there is a difference definitely. so tell them.

I have heard officially there is no difference. But there probably is a difference unofficially...I just hope I caught them in time ( Likely not..!) Its frustrating because one thing came up after another and this just kept going back and now I'm here.. I'm probably sitting in the reject pile and my information is not going to make a darn difference...

Hey Thejas--It's me lol. Well, nothing you can do about the situation now, you tried your best to inform them ASAP. Chillax...

Hey Fiona..Hows it going

Well its not early.. and its entirely my fault.. So I sorta deserve it.. Most applications will be read by now more than once by now right guys ? Is there a chance they may review it because of new information ?

definitely a difference for the two… of course its not explicit that its tougher to get in as an international student… but just looking at the numbers of those admitted… most schools don’t go beyond the 10%ish mark for international students. it is much more difficult for them.
