In the huge instructions file that reed provides, if you scroll all the way down to: Applying as an international student, it doesn't list the Writing Sample as a required essay, only the Personal Statement and 'Why Reed'. All the rest of the categories do. Is this accurate?

yea, it does not require it, but if you want to have more chances ... I would suggest sending it.
One of the intl students at Reed told me that she thinks the reason she got in was exactly this essay

I have been out of school for one year (national service) so I don't have any recent papers at all. All the writing I have done are for college essays. =P

what if mine doesn't have anything written on it? it was a college class, and we emailed our stuff to the professors. i just got an email back with the grade. should i print out the paper and write the grade on it or what?

I'm not sending any essay. I dont have any such graded papers and the professors are too busy to grade one now.
In previous years, many students from my high school went to Reed, and they didnt send any graded paper.
