Hi, I'm going on foreign exchange in my junior year of high school (next year) and I've started to look at colleges that focus internationally? I really want a global education. On the other hand, are there good overseas English speaking colleges? Thanks for the help!!

Georgetown’s SFS

William and Mary has a great IR program and has the highest study abroad rate of any public school. They are also known for high levels of Peace Corp and State Department participation.

If you are interested in a LAC, Dickinson is known for its global focus.

Any of the schools in DC–I have a son at American University because he wanted a school with an international feel. He plays on the club soccer team, with teammates from Argentina, England, France, Germany, India, Hong Kong and Israel. Just what he wanted!

Tufts University comes to mind first.

Definitely look at Macalester College, Middleburry College, Pitzer College and Earlham College if you’re interested in liberal arts colleges. Maybe Carleton, St. Olaf, Grinnell and Beloit, too.

Rhodes has a ranked study abroad program, strong international studies major, and good language programs. International population of the student body is growing as well.

Colby College’s study-abroad program is highly ranked by Princeton Review.

Look for schools with high percentages of international students.

I was about to suggest the same thing. The NY Times addressed this very issue.

[The New York Times > Education > Image > Exchange Students]( Education > Image > Exchange Students”>The New York Times > Education > Image > Exchange Students)

As I have [written before](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1062985846-post5.html), PR’s “most popular study abroad” ranking is complete trash.

IBclass06 - any way we could see the image to the “right” of that with the study abroad percentages? just for curiosity’s sake

IMO, I wouldn’t base the decision on the college’s study abroad programs. All the schools have them, and if you don’t find what you want at the ones the college sponsors, you generally can find one that your college will let you go on.

SDonCC - I absolutely agree. However, I just think the study abroad percentages are interesting…

I think to find an internationally-focused college, you need to consider the college’s programs as well as the students. Students will be much harder to judge as “international” or not, but percentage of international students will definitely help.

Kalamazoo and Centre are interesting in that over 75% of students do some sort of study abroad.

Evansville has a campus in England at Harlaxton.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! An additional question- do you think foreign exchange will help my applications? Or will it just be another on a list of extra curricular?
