Internationals going to UT Austin?

does any international applicant know that they've got in to UT? when did u find out? any international tx residents out there who've got decisions? does anyone know if international tx residents are evaluated among internationals or locals?

I received this weird email about 4 days ago from UT about I-20, financial statements etc. so I logged in to the UT direct website (using the UT EID thingy) and saw that I was accepted. No email notification, or postal mail yet.

forgot to mention that i'm an international, not-residing-in-Texas applicant. Hope this answers your question, Sunnyr

congrats shftan

congrats.. I recd no email or snail mail either

Congrats shftan!

Hi , I've got into UT Austin as well and i'm an international student residing in the Middle East. I'm sure u guys must have heard about the tuition hike which was anncounced about a week back , if you havent then i'll tell you anway. Its given on the site's homepage about the board of directors deciding to increase the tuition fees. What used to cost a total of $28,000 will now cost $38,000 - thats a total increase of about $10,000.

Anyway after a lotta discussion i have decided to goto UT Austin. I'm planning to do a Electrical Engg / Finance double major. I needed to know the details about getting in-state status ; so if anyone studying there could find out , i would reeally appreciate it. As far as i know , onemust work around 20hrs in a week for a certain period of time in order to attain in-state status - but then again im not sure if u hafta CONTINUE working 20hrs a week for another specific period of time.

Please do let me know about the terms and conditions.

Anyone else going to Austin from the Middle east (doing Engg) ?

Non-Texan American pay in-state tuition after one year living in Texas.
Foreigners cannot do that, unless you have green card.

Well visitor1, thankyou for expressing your opinion , but unfortunately i must comment that you're mistaken.
I am an Indian who lives in the middle east , i know a friend of mine ( Who is also an Indian and who was a neighbour of mine ) that studied in UT Austin. He got in-sate-status after working for about 20 hrs a week for a period of 6months. So you see , the only reason i asked about the terms and conditions was to confirm if it's still the same as it was before (3yrs back).
Thus u don't necessarily require a Green Card to attain the in-state-status. Please do post the details of the procedure if you really find out how it works. Cheers mate

Accepted for the Pre-CS program. Waiting for Turings decision. Anyone going from Chennai to UTA??

hey i saw that not few people got accepted at UTA, and i think this is due to the fact that it is the largest (in population) american university? But guys can u tell me what your stats were because i am really curious to know what kind of students is UTA looking for (i think i am goign to appy there next year) Thank you...

Well getting into UT shouldn't be too hard provided u've got decent grades and a fair SAT score. My Application was far from extra-ordinary , im just an ordinary dude who excels in Math and physics but really sucks *** at Chemistry and Computers.

SAT 1 : 2100 (Critical Reading - 650, Writing - 700, Math - 750)
SAT 2 : Math level 2 - 800 , Physics - 800 (didn't send physics)
High School Transcripts:
10th - 90%
11th - 75%(Haha made it a cardinal rule not to study that year)
12th - Model score - 85%
ECs :
Community service - none whatsoever
Voluntary Work - none whatsoever
Speech and Debates - yeah a few achievements there
Painting and Music - Some more achievments there
Sports - none whatsoever

On ur application , the UT fellas ask for 2 essays , trust me don't really bother about writing ivy-material essays , the admission officers just wanna get to know you so be honest yet not boring.

PS - i know a friend of mine who had a SAT 1 score of about 1940 , and SAT 2 Math IIc - 720. His high school transcripts are about the same as mine , same with ECs , and even He made it into Austin. Hez got into the College of Engineering and his 1st choice - electrical Engg.
Trust me you dont necessarily hafta be a genius to get into UT , apply to purdue as well as its a better university when it comes to Engg , its reall easy to getinto tht place

Oh yeah by the way , momindoubt , did u receive my personal message ?

yes I did.thnx .I will reply to that.I do agree about it being easy to get in ut austin. All u need is 85% in 10th,sat anything above 1900,and may be a few ecs.It is more difficult to get into honors for which I belive u pay in state(I hope u applied).
