( i dont kno if I spelt safety correctly lol)

I know there is no such thing as a true saftey school for internationals, but I was just wondering what schools you guys are applying to, as near-safeties?

All the schools on my list are either a reach-match or a reach. This is mainly because my parents want me to apply to prestigious schools because they dont want to pay for my education at a non-selective, non-prestigious school, such as Ohio state.

My 'safeties' are, Florida state and couple of lower-ranked UCs.
What about you guys?

The thing about saftey schools is, my parents dont want to pay too much for no-name institutions.
And it's near impossible to find a saftey that has a 'name'.

I don't have any safeties - all of my schools are reaches. Some are low reaches (e.g. Grinnell, Macalester), some are huge ones (e.g. Dartmouth, Princeton). When you need financial aid, you won't be able to find a single safety, so why bother trying? Might as well aim high.

Yeah I'm not requesting for fin.aid. That's why my parents dont want to pay for a saftey no-name school and pay a heap load of money.
The only one they are CONTENT or rather a tad disgruntled with, is UCSD - And I'm pretty sure it's not a definite saftey for me.
And they only like it ebcause it branches off the other UC schools such as UCLA and UCB haha. THey are massive prestige whores. But I guess many intel parents are like that..

You call your parents whores? he...my parents don't press me to study abroad, they don't oppose it either; perhaps they prefer me to stay. So they are not concerned about pretige; in fact they barely know about my application to colleges abroad.

lol no Im not calling them whores per se, more like prestige-whores: like, people only seeking for prestige..
Yeah i dunno how to describe it, but hopefuly you get the idea..?

New York University and Michigan University (Ann Arbor)

I don't actually think that these universities are safe enough but my parents and my counselor seem to think they are. Guess i'll just listen to them!

Applicants always look at Michigan's acceptance rate (50%-60%) and assume it is a safety. However, it is actually quite selective, especially in the case of sub-par applicants. Of course, Harvard material students may consider Michigan a virtual safety, but for most of us, it is a pretty tough school to get into.
