hi ... im an international student and studying on an f1 visa ...

i'll be transferring next semester, but i'll also be going back to my home country for the summers ....

i'm in a fix now ... how does the i-2 thing work ?? i know i have to get a new i-20 but should i leave the u.s. and re-enter on my current i-2 and then get the new i-20 or should i just get the new i-20 and leave using that ???

anyone tried this thing before ?????

plz lemme know cause i just dont wanna be stuck outside the u.s. doing nothing :(

i am in the same situation, plus my visa will expire this year, so i will need to renew it.
I think you should have the international student advisor at your current school sign ur current I 20 and leave with that. And when u will be entering back u will need to enter with the I 20 of ur new school.

which school are u transfering to? and where r u from? if u don't mind.
good luck!

the thing is .... for the new school to give me an i-20 .. my current school has to drop my sevis record or something of that sort .. what i was worried about was that once my record drops for my current school, i might not be able to use their i-20 to get out ... and if i do use their i-2 , when i come back, wont they want to know why the new i-20 this time ???

I am transferring to NYU too,
yep u re right ur current school has to release ur immigration info to nyu so they can issue an I 20, but i think u still need to travel with ur, current I 20, and when u will be bcak use the 1 20 issued by nyu; at least that what i was told. and u still can ask the ineternational students offices of both schools good luck!

So do intl transfers have to apply for a new visa again? Coz we have the name of our old university written on our visa. Or do we just have to transfer our SEVIS record from the current univ to the new one?

if ur visa is still valid, i don't think u need to apply for a new one, u just need a new I 20, and yr sevis info transfered to the other school
