Can anyone explain the different types of connections we can get at McGill? I'll be going in with a laptop with 802.11 wireless and a place to connect into the wall, but I really don't know very much about it. Is there a wireless network that students can connect to for use around campus? Can students plug into a network in their dorm rooms? Thanks.

from what i hear the campus is almost completely wireless.. but i believe that you are required to purchase RezNet i think it is called in your room and it is quite expensive

There is a webpage on McGill's site that talks about phones and internet connections. I forget where it is exactly because I stumbled upon it accidentally when I was looking for information on our McGill emails. Try looking in the first year essentials website.

i think this should help u

hmm. Can someone summarize this for me b/c I am not aware of all these types of connections.

What is the monthly cost of having a high speed connection (decent speed) in your residence??

250 per semester i think it was this past yr.

if you want to be isolated without a cell phone but with a landline, get the voice and data bundle. :-P

honestly, you just need the internet. $300 for the whole year.

i got the bundle and a cell phone and i realized that i wasted 190 bucks for a landline that i hardly used, and when i did, i had to get a phone card to call intl at decent rates instead of at mcgill rezphone long distance rates.
