Do most rooms in Jester East connect to the wireless internet easily? How is the signal strength in the lower floors (Floors 1-3)? What about the classrooms specifically (RLM, WEL, BUR)? Also, if I bring an internet (ethernet) cable then am I still allowed to go on the internet for free as long as I am under the 500 MB per week limit? For general web surfing is 500 MB per week enough if you just look up stuff for classes, homework, facebook, sports scores, very few youtube videos (3-4), etc.? Do people who buy the Resnet plans mainly get it because they watch a lot of youtube videos/download a lot of stuff?

Wireless is wireless. Resnet is wired (or wireless if you would like, but still in your room.) You can not use your 500mb/week wireless allotment with a wired cable inside your dorm room.

500mb is a whole lot less than you think. You sound like a Tier I user for Resnet.

I forgot to ask this in the other thread, so i’ll ask here! So if we get resnet, we need to bring our own ethernet chord?

Yes you do.

Really? I thought resnet was wireless Internet In the dorm…

It is wired, but wireless is sometimes an option.

[Resnet - Options: Wired or Wireless?](http://resnet.utexas.edu/options/wiredorwireless.html)

It says if you buy the wired you also get the wireless? So wouldn’t it be best to buy the wired plan because you get both wired and wireless? I don’t see why anyone would ONLY buy the wireless. “If you choose any of the Wired Resnet options, you will also get Wireless Resnet.” “If you choose Wireless Resnet Only, then you can only access the Internet wirelessly in your residence hall.” Also, it says on that website that 2 gb can be purchased for only $5 but the limit is 3 per week? Here is the exact quote: “Bandwidth purchases are made by credit card using the secure PNA TXShop store. You can buy 2 gigabytes (GB) at a time, for a cost of $5.00 per purchase (limit of 3 purchases per week).” Wouldn’t this be better if you are going to need the extra bandwidth during specific times like say before midterms or finals instead of purchasing the full plan for $180 for 4 GB? Also, what about the wireless connection in Jester East? I think 4GB will be too much for me because I won’t be going on youtube too much. I will mainly be using it for looking up stuff and homework.

No, that extra is for the restricted.utexas.edu wireless, not Resnet wireless. That’s for the 500mb limit wireless.

Resnet is COMPLETELY separate from the restricted.utexas.edu wireless that you probably connected to during orientation. That is the wireless that is accessible anywhere on campus, not in the dorms.

so i have a question…is resnet required!!!
