Internet speed at school? and regarding downloads.

I know torrents do not work on campus, but i was wondering if downloads through mIRC are still fine and go at full speed. Secondly for anyone who currently goes to ucsc do you have a speedtest.net of the schools internet =P? would like to be able to continue streaming during off hours while im going to school.

torrents do work at school, just don’t be stupid and get caught.

Resnet(the wired connection to the rooms)
is about 8 mbps up is 6
Cruznet(wireless available for everyone)
is about 2-4 mbps, you also cannot play online games on cruznet

aw pooey =(. i thought ucsc internet was similar to Cals 80ish down and 50ish up

80 down per person? theres no way Cal’s internet is that fast per student

i think so. i know MIT has 100up/100down in the dorms

I can’t believe that each person would get that fast of an internet connection, 40mbps is already considered extremeley fast, but 80 or 100 per person at a college just seems unreal.

thats not a per person connection, thats directly connected using an admin account or to the servers.

i think it that’s the actual speed. their wifi is currently @ 25mb. and at my cc we currently get 50/50 off the line to our laptops.
