Internet usage & policy

To those of you already at boarding school - is internet service available to you at your school during weekends and unexpected holiday's (such as today, when many New England school's canceled classes due to a major snow storm)? Also how late into the evening is it on?

At Choate, the internet gets cut off at different times for each form or grade. On school nights, for freshmen, I think it’s at 10. For sophomores it’s 11, and I think juniors and seniors both get it until 12. On weekends, the internet goes an hour later.

The day classes were cancelled we still had internet until the regular cut off time because it was technically still a school day/night.

Thanks Swamped with work! This sounds right. Some schools apparently have a more limited policy.

Sadie22 – what will be interesting to see is how schools manage their internet use policies given the emerging technologies. Most phones sold this year have full internet capabilities and this is without the use of MiFis, aircards, etc. Sure, the school may limit a student’s access to the network but it will become increasingly difficult for them to prevent after-hours Hulu viewing.

If the internet goes out at 10 or 11, when does it get turned back on?

Usually by 6:00 am but it may vary by school.

Although I doubt this is happening at "HADES schools " I suspect at some schools internet is turned off at times simply because the school feels it should be used only for school work, not FB etc.

Problem then when one needs it and its not there…
