Internet

Bump anyone?

I’ve been caught once by OIT for downloading torrents. The first offense isn’t bad you just have to delete the illegally downloaded material and write them an e-mail saying that you have, case closed. My roommate was actually caught twice, the second time they shut off your internet and you have to go to OIT and actually talk with them to get your internet connection back. Don’t know anyone who has been caught a third time but that must suck haha. They catch you through seeding, which is uploading back through torrents. Your IP address is seeded back and companies (HBO, NBC, etc, etc) who go tracking these IP addresses relay it back to Georgia Tech which has to report it. People have found ways to totally block uploading as a whole, if you can you should be ok.

Why exactly does GT have such fast internet? For what purpose? I know it is a very greatly know college but, I do not see the reason to have the second fastest in the Nation. And what kind of internet is it T1?
Thank you for any answers.

Tech is an internet backbone. So if someone asked “where is the internet located” Tech could be an answer as more data is routed through campus than anywhere else in the country. To put it another way, if somehow GT loses power (and the generators fail), the entire world will have noticibly slower internet.

The connection is much faster than T1.
