Interning in one state, getting an MSA/MST in another

Hello all. I had a question in regards to interning, finding full time employment, and where you get your masters. I currently go to school in FL for accounting, but have thought about going up to the Northeast for my masters, be it in accounting or taxation, to a school like Baruch, or maybe somewhere in Massachusetts/other parts of NE area.

From what I understand, the aim is to intern the summer before you intended on being done with schooling, in other words, between graduating from undergrad and starting the masters degree. Its also my understanding that whoever you intern with is generally who will offer you full time employment, especially in regards to the Big 4 firms.

So say I am offered an internship in FL, then afterwards decide to go Baruch to complete a masters. How would this then work in terms of seeking full time employment after the completion of the masters?

Thanks.

B4 doesn’t care how you get the 150 credits. If your internship leads to an offer in FL, you can do your masters anywhere and then go back to FL to start full time. But if you still want to go through recruiting in your masters program, you would most likely have to interview for positions close to the school.

Ok. I think I’m following. Basically what I’m trying to figure out is, assuming I’m offered an internship in FL but then went out of state for the masters, go though the recruiting process in the other state and find full time employment there instead?

Just read how unclear my response sounded. What I meant to ask is…

Say I get an internship in FL, but then I decided to go to NY for my masters. Do I then have the option to either return to FL for full time employment, OR stay in NY if I decided I loved it there and go through the recruiting process, even though I never interned in NY?

Sure, why not?

Why do you want to go to the Northeast for your masters degree?

No particular reason. I’m originally from NY, die hard sports fan for all NY sports, and it would be a nice change of pace from FL. I’m not sure I want to live there permanently, just wanna get a taste of it, the city, the weather changes, etc.

I know I can always come back to FL for full employment, especially if I ended up interning there before the masters. I just wasnt sure if it was common for people to intern at one firm and seek full employment at another, out of state firm.
