I am currently a sophomore at Georgetown University and am looking for an internship in Spain or another Spanish speaking country this summer. My language level is only intermediate so I would prefer to work in English but learn Spanish abroad.

I have been trying to find internships that are paid, but most make you pay like $8000 to WORK...which is not something I find myself being financially able to do..

Are there any options for what I would like? Can anyone suggest some websites? Most likely, I would want something in the Finance, Government, or Economics fields.

I also want an internship in Spain, but I don’t want to pay $8000. Hopefully someone can help us out!

Have you tried going through Georgetown’s career center or study abroad office? They may have some useful contacts and advice for you.

Be aware that it is very difficult to get a paid internship abroad, as there will be visa/work permit issues to be addressed (and the level of difficulty involved in resolving those – if they even can be – will depend on the particular country). So you will probably need to decide what is most important to you: (1) learning to speak Spanish more fluently, (2) having an international travel experience, (3) getting meaningful work experience in your career field, or (4) making some money this summer. After you have ordered your priorities, then you can start developing a plan to help you achieve what you want most.

Good luck!
