internship advice

Hi, I was wondering if I could get some advice for a friend of mine. I would have posted this somewhere else but it's somewhat of a unique situation and I figured some parents might have had experience in this.

My friend goes to a small catholic school and is a business major in their honors program. The problem is that even though she's a business major, her school just doesn't have the campus recruiting like many other larger schools. What I wanted to know is, what's the best way for her to try to get internships? Should she just cold-call companies that are in our area?

Any advice on how she should do this would be REALLY helpful

Could she get in touch with alumni from her school? I think that is great for networking. Could she do an unpaid internship? Many colleges offer that. My son did that this winter at an alum's company. He made a great contact who has said he would help him out.

A business major should have relatively less problems finding jobs...although internships I am not sure about. We also bought 'Best 109 Internships' book this year from amazon.com and got lots of good advice. Is your friend a junior or a rising senior? These companies are looking for juniors and rising seniors. This is the link to the book.

The best advice I could give is to visit the career services office of her college.

You should also look at the UC Berkeley website for information of internships. It has TONS of information.
