Internship Connections

Hey Guys,

So I've been going through a lot of these posts about internships (I'm looking for anything in the field of finance!) for most of the summer and I've come to a conclusion.....
Internships are a great way to boost your college applications.
BUT, you're most likely to attain them through connections.

Growing up in the Silicon Valley, I know tons of high school students with internships, ranging from the field of law to engineering. Most of them are attained through connections. My parents, one's a finance executive, has tons of connections in this field. However, he's not interested in helping me find or contact potential employers.

Any advice on how to convince my parents, boost my app without an internship, or attain one without connections is greatly appreciated.

More internships are attained through personal initiative then you’d think. Email professors at your local college who might be working on something you enjoy. Do the same to local companies that do what you want to do in the future. If you show genuine interest and the work being done isn’t dangerous for you to do, then most people would be open to having a student work with them. For a lot of people, it’s an honor or a challenge.
As long as the email you send is verbose and intelligent, then you should easily find an internship somewhere. But remember, about 80% of people will reject you, but it’s not personal. Just email as many people as possible and take it from there.

Don’t think “verbose” is what you are looking for…

articulate
