Internship during Fall semester

Hello, I am a current Undergraduate and mainly I am an International student, for the first time here in the U.S.A. As being a Freshman I have still quite some doubts and confusion about how things work here. I have a question for you today, hopefully you can help :) My college is offering us the opportunity to apply for an unpaid internship in a city not too far from where I live, about 2 hr away-driving. I would love to apply, as being the field of my major, but Fall semester is starting next week .. and this confuses me.
How come an internship is offered during school? Isnt' it a full time commitment? How does it work? If I got picked, how would I manage to go school plus do internship?
I hope my questions are clear and some of you can help out understanding a little more.
Thanks for your time in advance
Bye

You would schedule your classes around the hours of the internship or you would go after your classes.
It may include weekend hours.
Will you have a car? Transportation to and from the internship?
See how much studying you need to do before you commit to other things than academics.
On the other hand, practice on interviewing would be a good experience for you.

I interned part-time during the spring semester of this year. I was told I would be working about 20 hours a week, but it fluctuated based on my test schedules and deadlines. If you’re still in school, everyone is really understanding that school always comes first.

However, two hours driving is REALLY far. Are you sure you’d have time for that?
