Internship for Accounting/Information System major

hey all

i am a prospective accounting and information system major. i am currently in my sophmore year and i am thinking about doing some internship during the winter break (dec/jan).

i go to a small public university in a small town so there are not any big companies overhere.

i was wondering what kind of firms or places i should look into for internship. i would really like to get some real life experiences and gain valuable skills that will help me in the long run.

can you guys suggest me some thing that incorporates both the accouting and information system?? or any one of both.

i am currently thinking about talking to some of the accounting firms or chamber of commerce or some grocery stores, but i am not sure about that. i want to do something that will help me gain experience as well as something that will look good on my resume too.

feel free to throw your thoughts

(i posted the same thread under Business Major, but i think it also fits this discussion page :p)

thanks

More than likely most CPA firms would hire interns for the ‘busy season’ which would be roughly January through April depending on whether you are doing tax or audit.

For someone that is going to major in accounting/information systems I would suggest looking at Enterprise Risk Services with Deloitte. I am pretty sure all of the big 4 have an area that is similar.

[Enterprise Risk Services](http://www.deloitte.com/view/en_GX/global/services/enterprise-risk-services/index.htm)

If you are going with the accounting/information systems start applying to the accounting firms August/September of your Junior year. This is when they look for potential interns. If they don’t come to your campus apply on their site, or try to find the head recruiters email address and send them your resume.

Until then try to find a job/internship that is business related(maybe bank teller, etc).

Taxdad, we have firms recruiting for Spring 2011 and Summer 2011, starting in Spring of 2010(though they’re still doing the inane schmoozing crap already). I don’t know whether they’re more heavily recruiting for one or the other. Our 5 year program accommodates spring interns by offering certain graduate courses in a condensed term for just half the spring semester. I bet they’d be more inclined to offer summer internships to the people from non-target schools(who wouldn’t let spring interns take other classes in mini-semesters in order to maintain full-time status and graduate on time).
