So I've been offered an internship over the summer that pay pretty well.

The problem is that its for a power company and I want to work in the electronics field. If I were to reject the internship, I can continue doing my physics/materials science research (paid and maybe get published) and start electronics research (not paid).

I'm graduating in a year and if I don't take this opportunity I won't have any internship experience when I graduate. I would like either to go to grad school (master's program) or work in electronics when I graduate.

So the question is, how important is internship experience to other employers? Do they even care if your internship is in another field? And, in your opinion, what should I do?
