I want to get an unpaid internship in either biology research or some kind of computer science working with hardware or networks. Im afraid as a sophomore, no university or business would want me, so I wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

At least in the DC Metro area, I know students who are getting science/tech internships at various places (i.e. NIH, Georgetown, NIST, FDA, George Washington, U.S. Navy/Army) before they are even entering their freshman year of high school.

The fact that they are seeking unpaid internships is helpful I think. Then it is viewed also along the lines of volunteer work, which I think many places need more of. (And if they're no good at what they do, at least money isn't being wasted on paying them!)

Of course, one thing I know to be common in many these rising freshman (not to mention high school upperclassmen) is that they all took initiative in actively seeking out workplaces. Some employers would happily dispense good internship oppurtunites to students who show dedication in finding & participating in one.

Some students also had connections with the institute they chose to work at, something that helped them to no bounds.
