I got an interview for an internship. However, the location is an hour and a half away from my home. I applied and sent a resume for this, it clearly stated my home address. They scheduled my interview and gave me the address for the location, their posting also stated the same address. I have not gone to the interview yet, but it would feel like a waste of time driving an hour and a half to the interview to be told they won't help me at all. Should I bring up if they offer relocation assistance right now?

you can always ask if there is a stipend or some kind of housing assistance that they provide. Some jobs provide relocation, others do not.

That said, obviously people can apply for jobs where they do not live. Your address is not relevant to their search for a good employee. They believe that if you applied, obviously you are interested. Otherwise, if you live in DC and were applying for jobs in NYC, all the jobs in NYC would reject you, because obviously your address shows you are too far away, right?

At the interview, when they ask if you have any questions, you can ask if they provide any assistance or know where any past interns have lived while they were interning there. You should ask this after you ask a question or two about the company/position.

I commuted 90-100 minutes each way for an unpaid internship in spring 2011. It was local, but that was how long the commute took (it was a 45 minute drive, but they wouldn’t give me a parking pass).
