Hello everyone. I was wondering, how much importance does Johns Hopkins place on science internships/ lab experience? In other word, what kind of weight do these experiences carry when the admissions officers at JHU are looking at your application?
Any feedback is appreciated.

They’re probably big plus factors, how big depends on the quality of the internship/lab experience. But my guess is that if you’re skilled enough to do lab/internship work in HS, you’re definitely good enough to be admitted. I got into Hopkins as a junior transfer with virtually no lab/internship experience, and I’d imagine the standard is higher for applicants who are junior college students! (although I had a strong GPA and solid ECs/leadership).

Great, thanks for the insight!!
Anyone else willing to add anything/elaborate?

I’ve heard that it really does boost one’s app, depending on the time. But it’s not something that’s big enough to be “game-changing” in app decisions.

Does anyone know how big of an effect 20 hrs of research would have? i know it’s not much but would it make a good impression? I was in a lab at a local hospital for 4 hours a week for about a month helping with research with the anesthesia dept.
