One of my kids has a chance for a great internship this summer in a field he's interested in but it would only be for one or two weeks. Would this be worth the travel/accomodation expenses? Do the adcoms look kindly upon short internships? And here's a dumb q: is there a question on the common app about summer activities?

Can't answer part 1, but yes there is a qx on common app re summer activities. https://app.commonapp.org

Heidi, the common app has a section entitled "Extracurricular, person and volunteer activities (including summer)".

http://app.commonapp.org/Additional_Forms/common2005_app.pdf See page 4 of 5.

I believe summer activities are critical. A short internship might be favorable if it were immediately followed or preceeded by another worthwhile endeavor. Alone? Not enough, IMHO.
