<p>Most internships I have knowledge of are indeed paid......not always at a high rate, or the cost of living near and such require more than one is paid. I'd imagine if it is paid you will be notified clearly that there is pay. How could you now know?</p>
<p>Would an internship that is not paid--especially government type stuff count as volunteer work?</p>
<p>Non paid internships could be volunteer work.....usually one is hoping to learn something and get a nice letter of recommendation for the next program you apply for.</p>
