I am a rising junior with 20k of grant money to use over the next two years. I could spend next summer traveling and doing independent research or getting formal internship experience. With a formal internship, I might get some money in my pocket which would help out a lot with tuition. I have one summer's worth of research experience, but I'm beginning to realize academia doesn't suit me, which is why I think it would be valuable for me to get my feet wet in one of two other fields that I'm looking at (one of which involves business). Unfortunately, my grant expires as soon as I graduate, meaning I have two winters and one summer left in which to use the money. The likelihood of finding even an unpaid internship during winter break seems low, but I'm not sure where else I might get the experience before graduating. Any thoughts?

If academics doesn’t suit you, then go for the internship. Might as well get experience where you’d like

If I don’t travel on this grant money, I don’t know when I will have the chance to travel next. It will be paid for now, but not in the future.
