Hi. I just started an internship in the neuroscience epartment at UCSD. (I'm a sophomore) I plan on continuing until I graduate because it is such an eye-opening experience. However, I recently read an article in a magazine stating thta internships don't help students into college! Is this true? How is that even possible?

look, do it and put it on your application. colleges look for dedication, effort, and passion in your extracurricular activities (being good is a plus as well). will your internship have all those elements? yes? then do it!

internships are valuable learning experiences

I think your internship will be very valuable, not only for getting into college, but for being able to get a research assistant job early in your career. My freshman roommate had a biology lab internship in high school, and her faculty supervisor there knew a faculty member at the college, and arranged for her to get a job in that faculty member's lab her first term!

my D did a radio internship in HS, and that gave her a leg up on a Radio internship in college

"valuable" - well,t hat article was goofy
