I remember someone mentioned in a post about engineering centers/labs of Google, Microsoft, or Intel on campus. I wonder how hard it is to get an internship opportunity? Also, is there a CMU-headed alliance with industry like the internship program in MIT EECS? Thanks.

Intel's thing on campus is a research opportunity for undergrads (I think typically during the school year). I know nothing about Microsoft on campus. Google has a location on campus. We have giant technical job fairs once per semester, and massive numbers of companies come and recruity, including Microsoft, Google, and Intel. After freshman year, not very many people get internships unless they apply less prestigious places, have lots of previous experience, or have connections. After sophomore year, a pretty good number of people who were serious about finding internships have them, and after junior year almost everyone who wants one has one. Often people spend the summer after freshman or sophomore year doing research on campus.

But you'll find this all out soon! You've already decided you're going to CMU, so there's not much you can change. Just chill and enjoy your summer. :) If you really need something to do, install linux and learn basic commands.

Thanks, KK. I cannot wait to fly to Pittsburgh on 29th for the pre-college program & fall semester.
