Internship or AP Chem

I'm a UVA hopeful and I need help deciding how to improve my chances. I want to major in Nursing and I have the opportunity to get an internship at a medical office senior year. Unfortunately, to get this intership, I won't be able to take AP Chem (the internship is through a program in my school where students get early release). I know the School of Nursing likes students who have medical experience, but UVA also likes a difficult course load. I'm also volunteering at a hospital to get medical experience elsewhere.

ahhh that sounds awesome! I’m a senior right now hoping (crossing my fingers!) to get into the nursing program…
I know most nursing schools require you to take Chem and all science/nursing classes at the university, which means you wouldn’t be able to skip over chem with ap credit anyway. Personally, I took AP Chem this year just to get a bit more help/groundwork in it before college.
So if I was in your place, I would definitely go for the internship!

Then again I am partly biased against AP Chem as I am currently counting down the days until my misery will end  (40 days!!!)

Is the rest of your Senior year courseload and previous coursework sufficiently rigorous that you won’t be hurting too much from missing one AP course? Do you have 4 years of sciences otherwise? (Including any non-AP, chemistry courses?)

There are several factors to consider in weighing this decision. First, you stated it is an opportunity within a medical office. What does this entail? Are you are just going to be in the front office/reception area? If so, this does not permit much exposure to the nursing field? Or, will you be shadowing or having a nurse/physician as a mentor and allowed to be introduced to the medical field within an engaged learning experience. If it is the latter then do the internship, if not then take AP Chem.

I decides to take the internship, but now because of changes in my schedue I might be abe to take AP Chem also. The problem is in my school AP Chem takes up 2 electives so i can take chem or AP statistics and Chem 2. I don’t know which is better.
