Internship questions

Would any people tell me if I can get paid from my internship job? Because in my home country, students generally don't get paid. In addition, I also wanna know how many hour I have to work for the internship weekly usually (I know the answer is depending on which job I have, but I mean, "usually"). Thanks for replying.

do you have an internship already? or do you just mean in general?

if you're asking generally, internships have two options: paying you, or getting you course credit through your school. most don't pay and i wouldn't expect your first internship to be a paying internship. you will, however, receive course credit.

i'm sure that hours worked can vary greatly... if the internship is important enough to you, it will be your highest priority. don't juggle too many things.

If you meet the requirements and are the best candidate, then you will get the internship.

Some positions will not hire students without U.S Citizenship. Internships are usually full time (9-5). Some companies offer 1/2 pay for overtime, which is great because regulars don't get paid for overtime (often). "Part time internships", at least in my opinion, shouldn't be called internships, but more like part time jobs ... because that usually means the tasks worked on my the interns is not very important or rewarding due to the short hours (at least what I think).

What is your major? Internships for different majors vary from tasks, difficulty, and style.

Thx for you guys input. I just ask it in general, cause I am planning to have an internship soon. I hate to work for free, but it seems I have to T_T. And another question is how long does the internship last usually for 1 course? (1 months and a half for summer ?)

Interesting. In my experience, I've always gotten paid for internships and never gotten course credit for them. Perhaps it depends on the field.

Most internships are 8 to 12 weeks. I think full-time (typically 40 hours/week) is most common.

ya, I prefer this kind of internship, Cause I am also worrying about over 216 Units Cap, I don't want to get credit from Internship actually, but $$ hehe, really need it.

s_dragon, what is your home country? and what type of internship are you looking at?

To Cheese: I am from Vietnam, but I am Cantonese. I am not really sure if I should have an internship in the next summer or take summer classes because many great classes are offer during the summer (we can register for even graduate classes !!!). That's why I would prefer to have an internship that the schedule is relatively flexible so that I can attend summer class as well.
