Internship Second Round Interview Help

Anyway, got a second round interview coming up and while I have been trying to go over answers to questions in my head, organizing my experiences, etc. I am still nervous. And I got a week to go, lol.

The interview is with a Big Four firm and seeing as it's my only chance for an internship this summer. Yes, maybe next semester, but doubtful considering the accounting firms get interns now.

Anyway, so I also know that internships could possibly lead to a full time position after graduation, so making the pressure even bigger.

This few hours next week could dictate a lot. If I can land the internship I know A LOT of weight will be lifted off my shoulders at least.

Anyway, anyone have some advice?

One question I can't seem to answer is the "tell me about yourself" one. I hate it. So, so much. It's so damn vague. You never know whether to go personal or not. It's a fine line. And then if you go into your strengths, it could seem like you are trying to hard to sell yourself (definitely something my first interviewer didn't like... since after that he said, "no, I don't want to know about that, I want to know about you." That sucked. First interview and first question I get that. Eff damn mock interview lady, she helped me and it screwed me! I learned from that one though...

But anyway, back to the second round interviews.

I don't only want to know about the 3 back to back interviews, but also everything else. From greeting them and eating with them. It's all part of the interview really... and I wanna be prepared and do the best I can.

I feel I can do well and really believe I'm very qualified and can do a great job. However, I'm just nervous/anxious right now and think some advice and what not will help me out. The more I prepare, even if I overdo it, the more confident I am... it helps me.

Sorry for the length of this. Any help is appreciated.

Bumping...

First off congrats on making it to the second round.
I just accepted an offer from a big four firm in nyc. the second round is actually a superday with a reception at night and the interviews (along with presentations) after. One you make it to the second round there are no recruiters grilling you. i never got the questions like tell me about yourself but did get questions like why the firm and why tax. prepare a list of questions before you go and be practice asking them. there are 3 back to back interviews with 3 different level people (associate, manager, partner) who really want you to do well. you must try to act natural and relaxed but be on guard. it really depends on who is interviewing you.

the biggest thing is know the firm and know your stuff. if you get a folder with your interviewers name at the reception the night before then you google them and get a feel for them. the interview is about social skills as well as commitment. do your research on the group and ask about their jobs and how it pertains to the position your interviewing for.

PM me if you have any more questions.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but how did it go? I have second rounds coming up with 2 of the big 4 in about a month and a half.

My take on it is… if you were able to pass the first interview, then you definitely have the skills/ability to pass the second round. They know you are qualified, and know you are a top candidate.

They will be wanting to see if you fit into the culture, and see how you interact.

As for the “tell me about yourself”, I feel that with accounting firms, they really want to know about you. Not the general “team player”, “hard worker”, “quick learner” etc. Talk about where you grew up, what brought you to “insert school here”, briefly discuss your work experiences, and then briefly discuss some of your genuine qualities that are attractive.

This is just my opinion as a student though >_>
Wow this was more than 3 years ago…
