I’m an undergrad environmental science major and I have not had any working experience as an environmental science major. My research assistant job would most likely not be paid since I’m still an undergrad, but I think it would be good experience and I would be able to probably get a good letter of recommendation, as well as something decent to put on a resume. If I got an internship, I most likely need to already have a resume (if I’m not mistaken), it might or might not be paid, and these internships seem to be harder to find.
Which would you recommend?
Any experience paid or unpaid will be helpful in putting together a good resume. My son is studying ESM. He has done 2 unpaid on-campus internships (unit credit and required for his major) along with a paid internship this past summer. All three of these internships will help him on his job search next year. Get as much as experience as you can and being a Research Assistant is a good start.
Wow, that sounds awesome! I’ve found that certain campuses are more encouraging/“pushy” when it comes to getting experience. Unfortunately, for my college, they simply tell you that you need either an internship, independent study, or research under a professor, but they don’t really help you out. It’s really frustrating. I just got in contact with a professor to see if she knows of any positions opening up starting in spring semester so we’ll see. Thank you for responding
