internship with college credit roadblock

I know there are differing opinions on receiving an unpaid internship. My son has been offered an unpaid internship this summer and a friend of ours will mentor him on the job. It is an excellent opportunity. He is only going into sophomore year. His school will not allow college credit for unpaid internship, so the company will have to deny his internship. He really wants this job. Does anyone know of a school that he could apply that would allow him to take a summer class internship even though he doesnt attend their school?

Where are you located? My son used UCLA extension last year, others used a local community college. Total waste of money, but what can you do?

thank you so much. We’re all the way out east in upstate NY. We checked with the local community college. They said no. Does your son go to UCLA? Seems silly to have to apply for a college credit just to work for free. UCLA extension may seem strange for him to try with way out here, but I’ll take a look. thanks for replying

I checked with UCLA extension. It seemed that they would have been happy to do it, but my son’s internship is in computers. They don’t have an internship in that field currently, but are planning to have one a couple semesters down the road. Thanks for the insight. Any other ideas?
