Internship with The Colbert Report

My dream is to intern with The Colbert Report. Well, actually, my dream is to WORK there, but I think an internship is more likely.

My question is: how do I get there? I'm going to major in either journalism or political communications...do you think these are related enough to the show to get credit? And do you think this would be an unusually hard internship to get?

Haha, that's an awesome goal, troof.

I don't think it would be hard to get. You just need to express a lot of interest, like any internship. Show them you want the job.

Well in the summer they're pretty competitive. You apply through MTV Networks. I know several students who have interned for them from a variety of majors and I think it is really about the interest.

From a variety of majors? That's good news! I was worried that only TV/Film majors could land the job. Does anyone know how many interns they take in a semester?

@Westmere: I'm afraid to show them JUST how much I want the job. I'd kill for it, really. I'm one of the show's crazy obsessive fans, but I don't want too much of that to reflect on my application.

I wouldn't emphasize you're crazy obsessive. Say you really like and admire the show and emphasize your work ethic.

I don't know how many there are per semester but I want to say like 5-8.

I know people who were:
film majors, poli sci majors, journalism majors, dramatic writing majors, philosophy majors, pre-law.

there are definitely a lot of film and tv majors but that's just general media for you.

As someone said, apply through MTV Networks on the Job Hunt page. Apply EARLY and voice interest in the Colbert Report... its really about your interest not only in the show, but also in whatever dept you'll be working in (I interned @ MTV Networks in the marketing dept of Nickelodeon, but met a few kids interning at Colbert in orientation and stuff, they worked in the production dept and were production majors in their schools and while they were fans of the show, they wanted the production experience). I honestly dont know the depts that Colbert Report show actually hires for, but your majors are GREAT for it. So apply early, write a good cover letter, etc
