Internships after one year

<p>So none of these internships are due to the school you're at? Thread name is "internships after one year". Just trying to get some more info.</p>

<p>I wish I could get an internship after one year. My internships don't start until spring of second year.</p>

<p>If you want to have an internship after your freshman year, you need to be looking around before Christmas. Lots of applications are due in Feb. and March. The career office or engineering office at your school can help. You can look at SULI, student internships in nat'l laboratories, and there are a lot of REUs for engineering/physics/math students. If you take the initiative early in the year, you can get an internship after your freshman year.</p>

<p>Ahhh, well it'd be too late now anyway, as I'm already finished my first year, aha...</p>

<p>My school is VERY heavy on the co-op programs (which I'm entering), but those doesn't start until second year.</p>

<p>Do these internships generally not take as many freshmen due to lack of experience? If you have about a year's worth of university-level research from high school, would it still be difficult to get an REU position after freshman year?</p>

<p>a lot of people are doing SURF and SpaceGrant stuff here at JPL. talking to some of these people, it sounds like a pretty cool deal.</p>

<p>a lot of them are 20+ though. there are a few 18 years old though.</p>

<p>COLLEGE! - its not that hard to get REU's after your first year.</p>

<p>I wish I had a summer job doing something engineering related, instead of working 2 jobs, in a warehouse and painting. I applied at a couple big companies here in CT, but was too late (April). I'm at community college until the spring, so I don't have any connections. </p>

<p>What's NSF? National Science Foundation? I got a scholarship from them - I'm real happy about that.</p>

<p>I have an acquaintance here whose brother works for an eng. firm. She said she would talk to him about getting me an internship. wOOt! (oh, next summer)</p>
