Internships and Coops for science and engineering students with Low GPA

My GPA isn't very good at the moment but I'm planning on raising it this semester and the next. But the highest it will be for next summer's internship will probably be a 3.0 .

Are there any internships/coops/ research experiences where they don't look at GPA or they will take in people with 3.0 or less than 3.0 gpa?

My intended major is BME but I don't mind doing any internships for Bio, Chem and Physics students or ChemE internships.

Most of the internships that we’ve looked at require applications and transcripts well before the end of the spring semester so your spring grades won’t have an effect on applications. You could always look for internships that don’t specify a GPA and see how well you do. You could also go to your professors that do research and ask them if they are looking for someone over the summer.

One thing that I noticed in a few REUs is that preferences include community college students besides women and minorities. My guess is that there is something at the Federal level on grants encouraging students from community colleges going into research.

There will be a lot of students “pounding the pavement” for internships for the summer and now is a good time to look around. Google isn’t a bad tool for looking for REUs. Some of the job search sites are good for looking locally. Checking the jobs sites for large local companies may work too. The best jobs come from personal networks - if your parents are connected, that’s definitely something to try.
