Internships as a Transfer

As a recent transfer to a liberal arts college, I spent the first two years of my "college career" doing the following:
Freshman year [Fall/Spring]: *Studying and receiving a 3.85+ GPA *[Summer] Studying for the SAT (which I had never taken prior to college, researching new universities, writing 13+ essays for admission, and holding a part-time job). Sophomore year *was similar *[Fall/Spring] 3.9 + GPA **[Summer]: **Part-time job and reviewing course material since I am "transferring up".

Anyway, I have not been lazy in the least, simply preoccupied with the transfer process. I'll be a Sophomore according to the university because California State University credits are not taken as easily (I came from a decent CSU).

As a new transfer with no real experience, how quickly shall I:
a. Begin utilizing the career center?
b. Contacting alumni for internships/work experience?
c. Searching for a Summer internship?

I am undeclared, but my leanings are to Political Science and English. Pragmatic? Perhaps not, nut the proximity of the state's capital makes these appealing...

Any advice on how to begin this process?

You have an impressive GPA, so keep that up. I think it would be best for you to know exactly what career path you want to take because this is going to make it easier for the career center (and yourself) to look for relevant work experience and internships. Target your career goals, because it’s a little late in the game for you to “test the water” with internships. As for summer internships THIS summer… it’s a little late, but you could cold call small firms that your interested in… PM me if you need more help or advice.
