So im a freshman this year, and i was wondering what internship programs there were for investment banking that i'd be eligible for. I heard of the JP Morgan honors program, and i was wondering, how would GPA factor in? Would high school GPA factor in in some way? what about SATs?

Definitely apply for the JPM honors program, but competition is going to be fierce.

JPM honors program has a min 3.5 GPA requirement. I don't think high school grade matters at all. They don't ask, and I've only seen freshmen put it on their resumes. From what I've heard, investment banks really like high SAT scores. But, these are only factors that will help you get the interview. The interview determines if you're hired or not.

UBS has a Freshman Frenzy program which is a one-day, expenses paid, immersion in the world of finance. The min GPA for that is 3.4. This is a good opportunity to network, and if you can get into this, you'll likely get future internships without much trouble.

you can apply for the JPM program (i think Citi also has a program in April that lasts a few days), but your chances are VERY low at getting in.

Your best bet would be to find a boutique firm in finance and do something there (and do a really good job at it). It may open up opportunities for the next summer (in which you still don't have much of a chance), and will definitely help out by your junior summer

Contact HR People from the banks, I finished my freshman year and I am currently interning at Morgan Stanley, use all your resources and network as much as possible

Nobody gets an investment banking internship out of freshman year unless they are extremely connected. There is no motivation for banks to do so. They hire juniors because they want to pick out their full-time analyst hires. Freshmen are too young.

That being said, there are a lot of great opportunities out there. The best case scenario would be PWM at a BB, but there are many great opportunities.

Don’t worry. Freshman internships arent that big of a deal. I’ve never heard of anyone who felt hindered for not having one. Hell just relax for the summer and do some traveling. If you really want to be a banker you will be short on vacation days soon.

you can’t apply and get a IB intern as a freshman. there are program like the smart start program which allows you to work at JP Morgan because of the contract and scholarships. otherwise wait till you are a junior and make sure your GPA is high.
