Internships for High Schoolers

So many of these highly qualified high school kids have taken internships. As I browse through countless webpages online, I can't seem to find a single internship for high schoolers. They are all for undergrads. My question is, where can i find some internships for a junior like me, in NJ, USA? An internship is a great way to embellish my barren college app.

I would appreciate it if you will help me and other confused ccers find internships. Please post all the information you have about internships here. What are they by the way?

Thanks a bunch!

Dont do an internships "to embellish the barren college app"
internships are not for that.

thats so vague anyway, internship for what? business? research? we need a little more info on what you are interested in to be able to say, try this option or this option. and to second collegebound, thats a terrible way of putting it - embellishing the common app is not the reason for interning, youre supposed to get SOMETHING out of it... that isnt a boost of a resume...

I'm from New Jersey and I am currently interning at local government. They could always use summer help and its a good way to learn about the inner-workings of municipal government. I mean how many teenages know what a Land Use Board actually does?

you could check if your school district has an internship program....for example the Miami-Dade County Public School system, where i attend school, has this program called the Honors Executive Internship Program (HEIP) where if you meet the requirements of having a 3.0 uw gpa and have a good attendance record then you can apply for an internship at one of the industries around the city...you can do an internship at the local newspaper, at the county morgue, at a lawyers office or if your into the sciences and wanna do a research internship (like me) you can work with professors at the local university or hospital....the best part is that its counted as an extra honors class and you get credit for it as well as seeing if business or law or medecine is really what you want to do for the rest of your life

anyways check to see if they have a program like that in your school district and if they dont try and see if you can start one....or you could always do some research on industries around your area that fit your subject of interest and call them up and explain to them that your a senior (junior, etc) at a local high school and that you are interested in going into blank field of study and you wanted to see what it really was like and if it would be possible for them to offer you an internship...you can prolly work it out so you can get community service out of it or maybe even turn it into a part-time job after a while if you really do love what they do, and if not you'll always have that work experience with ya....you never kno just research and call =P

P.S. sorry for the length and g'luck =D

You should intern in a field that you have an interest in and want to know more about. Last summer, I interned for a mortgage company, and it was a good thing I did because after that, I knew I didn't want to go into that business! Just ask around and call up some major companies or go on their websites. Also, fastweb.com is a GREAT resource. Good luck!

anyone know of good internships in northern New Jersey focused in Business/Marketing?
