Internships for students

How much weight do postings that list "currently enrolled in college" in the job description have on one's success at getting such an internship (for example, a recent graduate)?

bump…

I would think that if it’s a decent (the better school, the better) college, they’ll know that ur a serious student from the beginning. Esp. if ur majoring in accounting at a top notch school and applying for a internship at an accounting firm.
Just common sense here really

Depends on the particular internship, if it’s a paid position.

If it’s an unpaid internship, being a college graduate – rather than “currently enrolled” – will usually exclude you from consideration, because the company will not want to risk getting into trouble with the Dept. of Labor regarding minimum wage laws. With a current student, they can arrange for formal course credit to be given as a form of compensation.

Thanks for that info! Very helpful.

In the same scenario - one has just graduated and would like to pursue an unpaid internship - is it possible to sign up for a few courses at a community college to fulfill the academic credit requirement (and would there still be problems with the cc accepting the credit or some other potential issue)? Note that one would still have the backing of the 4 yr degree on the resume.
