Hi All,
Thanks again for all of your help. Columbia has always been my dream school (I'm a freshman in high school, thinking of the future already:] ). This summer I am looking for something to do that will look impressive when I do apply to Columbia U. What programs should I look into (I'm thinking I'll go into law or business because those two interest me most, if that can guide you any further.) Thanks so much!

Yeah, I’m a sophomore in high school. It will be pretty hard to get an internship at Columbia as a freshman but it is possible. Are you in DECA (its a business club)? BTW, I love Columbia and I live two blocks away from it in Manhattan.

well i wouldn’t want to get an internship AT columbia in particular, although that would be great, but just somewhere that would look impressive to columbia on my application. i’m looking into an internship at a newspaper right now. thanks for responding! hey maybe in a few years we’ll both be at columbia:]
well i live in sleepy hollow (im sure you’ve heard of it) about 25 minutes from columbia. but i wish i lived closer:]

Spend less time on CC as a freshman, spend more time finding something that actually interests you, and then do it. If you’re making everything a chore just to get into college, you might burn out my senior year.

I firmly believe that I got into Columbia through the personality I showed through my recs and essay. So go try to have a life.

Yeah, I agree with conorske. Since you are only a freshman, go out and develop your interests. Do DECA, be involved in school, and most importantly have a life.

DECA? What’s that? I do have a life, but when I’m not with other people or doing student government stuff then I tend to explore on here. What ECs did you do in high school if you don’t mind me asking.

Instead of trying to manufacture your next four years based on what you think Columbia wants to see, you should live your life and do what you want to do, since Columbia (and other schools) don’t want to see robots, they want to see real people with genuine interests and passions.

I’ve gotten into Columbia ED this year and I have similar interests. Do debate club, model un, etc and do well in school. though do clubs you truly like and it’ll show through that you are sincere about them.

DECA (a business club), Exit 33 (our school literary magazine), The Southerner (our school newspaper), and Model Congress. Yeah, its more about quality than quantity. Don’t become a member of 10 clubs unless you are really actively involved in each one. Do you like debate? Maybe you should join your debate team or model congress. Just find a club and stick with it. Do clubs that you are passionate about and truly love.
