I'm in the process of looking for chemical engineering internships for this summer. I have already consulted my school's career center as well as random online websites. I'm having difficulty of finding more opportunities. There seems to be a shortage where I live. I am willing to travel to another state (i'm in the US) as long as there isn't a significant financial burden.

Any advice is appreciated.

If your school has worthwhile clubs, use them to network. Also, ideally you should have started looking for internships in September.

Totally not the case at my school or really in my region that I’ve noticed. Definitely went to the career fair in September, but I’m co-oping this Spring so I don’t really count.
For the most part, companies recruit from my school in the spring. Last year, I had friends with internships lined up for the summer by December sure, but the majority of us found our internships February-March.
