Internships?!

Do internships really make a difference on a college application?

bummppp…

In my opinion internships can help an application look better so long as they pertain to your interests/career goals. For example if you aspire to be a scientist or engineer but you grab an internship at a law firm because your dad had a connection there then that might not be in your best interest. I think internships are a good thing to have but kind of unfair to those without connections, being that internships are more conventionally aimed at college students who actually have some proficiency in their field, rather than a junior in high school just sitting around shredding papers and grabbing coffee etc. This means that only kids who happen to have connections can get internships, and many times they’re not really legitimate ones. Ultimately I think if you can get an internship that relates to your college goals then go for it, but if not don’t panic about it, just do some volunteer work or something where you actually learn and apply real life skills rather than just plopping something on your application for the sake of having it there.
