Internships

Because of the very low acceptance rate at TASP and SSP I want to find an internship to do this summer. The problem is that I have no clue how to find one. I don't want one that you have to formally apply to because I can not compete with college students. Anyone know how I should start my search? Should I just talk to my friends about where their parents work and try and get one that way or should I write to the companies? Anyone have any experience?

i found mine last summer through the business department at my school. also, look for companies in the area that do something you would be interested in. don't be afraid to call them or email them and ask if there are opportunities available. if you tell them that you will work for free in order to gain experience, i'm sure that you will be able to find one. and there is a high probability that you can find an internship that pays. but be careful because you don't want to end up making coffee for some business person/engineer all summer
