Does anyone know about the quality of internships available at University of Chicago in terms of opportunities in investment banking and consulting within the city of Chicago? Also, how common is it for students to take part in internships, when do students generally start (freshman year, sophmore, etc..) and is their an office at the University of Chicago that assists students with internships? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

The school is incredible about internships, they have a whole dinner and presentation for the freshman where they give you a bunch of pamphlets and links to websites/databases of internship opportunities. There will be people to assist you with applications, give you recommendations, find other opportunities, give you practice interviews, etc.

You can do an internship any summer although it seems like most people I know are taking this summer (leading into our 2nd year) to just work and get some money - that's what I and most of my friends are doing. All the big firms recruit on campus, but I hear that it's very difficult to get an ibanking internship before your third year or so, as they're looking for people who are already set with their concentration and career choice (and that they can scoop up right after they graduate).
