I was thinking about transferring to RPI but everyone tells me to go to a school in the city because of all the internship opportunities and such and I dont really picture troy as much of a metropolis,

so are there good opportunities for internships and such at RPI?

I want to go to a graduate school thats high ranked and I hear they look hard and long at your work experience and such so I want to get as much as I can as early as I can!

The internship opportunities are fine, its just that they aren't in Albany/Troy. You have to go elsewhere like New York City, or Boston, or New Jersey. I know quite a few of my friends who got internships this summer, or went on co-op for a semester.

Well, there's a career fair a couple of times a year. Here's a list of companies that came to hire at the last one. Not all of them are looking for internships, but a significant portion are:

Also, it depends whether you want to do internships, or research: I would say research is probably more valuable for graduate school. RPI has quite a few research opportunities in engineering and the sciences. If you know what field you want to pursue, and start research early, maybe get published, that will help greatly in getting into grad school.

I'm in physics, and am doing a summer research "REU" at Stony Brook. I also had an opportunity for astrophysics research at RPI.
